Sometimes you're just at the right place at the right time. Astronauts aboard the International Space Station experienced just such a moment when they captured this captivating image of a rare aurora australis over the Southern Indian Ocean likely caused by a coronal mass ejection from the sun late last month.

Wired.com has a great article on the company La Machine and it's latest creation, along with a few links to a few of their past mechanical monsters as well.

This is why art is hard, or at the very least, very tall. To create something so unique and mind blowing is an achievement all it's own. A perfect example of living art (note the plants on the top of the machine in what looks to be a hydroponic system).
